How to Style a Bow Tie

Mastering a bow tie is not as hard as it seems. You only need to learn the types of bow ties, their anatomy, how to tie a bow tie, and get the right proportions. It is important that you own various types of ties for different occasions. If you are in the market for a bow tie, here are options to consider.

The Butterfly Bow Tie

This is a classic style and bow tie shape, and it is also the most popular. It adopted its name from its shape when untied, as it resembles butterfly wings. Other people call this tie type a thistle tie as it resembles the head of a thistle flower when untied. It can be as narrow or as wide as you want.
Diamond Point Butterfly Bow Tie

This has an almost similar shape to the butterfly tie described above. The only difference is that this tie type has pointed diamond-shaped edges, not flat ones, as in butterfly ties. It is also referred to as a diamond-tip bow tie or a pointed-tip bow tie.

The Batwing Bow Tie

This tie type has flat edges similar to the butterfly type but is much thinner compared to the butterfly. It borrows its name from its resemblance to a cricket bat, not the Dark Knight or the Bat the animal. It is also referred to as a straight-end bow tie.

Pointed Batwing Bow Tie

This is a slight modification of the batwing bow tie. Instead of finishing it with a flat edge like a butterfly bow tie, the pointed batwing has a pointed edge that appears similar to the diamond point.

The Contoured Batwing Bow Tie

This also has a minimal modification from the original batwing bow tie. It has a slight contour that is very subtle when compared to the conspicuous dip on a butterfly tie.

Bow tie come in various shapes, types, and prints. Depending on the details, they can be worn on both official and casual occasions.
